Sweeps: the urgency tell

Today's lesson: the sweep.

Most big traders are patient. They work an order slowly so they don't push the price. A sweep is the opposite: the order grabs every contract available across several exchanges at the same moment, paying whatever it takes.

The exchanges themselves stamp these trades with an Intermarket Sweep code. Options Recon reads that code, and also requires the burst to hit two or more exchanges within half a second, before it calls an order sweep-confirmed.

An order hitting three exchanges in about a second

Why it matters: you only sweep when being in now is worth more to you than a better price. That's urgency, and urgency is information.

Every card on the board shows how many of its orders swept. A card with a sweep and a high score is the market's loudest statement of the day.
